All I did with my car thus far this weekend was go to the hardware store, but since people here enjoy looking at chandeliers, maybe they’ll also enjoy looking at what I did to my house yesterday.
My wife did before and after pics...
Here’s my after with the usual stuff in the usual places...
It is amazing how much space this change recovered under the sink. We can now store so much under there, like both the trash and recycling cans...
I also planted my blueberry bushes a few days ago, because edible landscaping is best landscaping.
Mmm... berries.

We tried planting a couple of blueberry bushes. We soon discovered our dogs like to eat blueberries too. Then it became an ever-escalating battle between man and beast to see who would get the blueberries first.

I haven’t noticed my dog going for them, but I used to have a dog that I had a similar battle with over raspberries. She didn’t even care if they were fully ripe, which made it that much worse.
I worry about birds - my wife’s grandfather has a lot of them planted in his landscape and birds get to a lot of the berries well before you can pick them.

My father has some near his lake house, ducks love blueberries.

Fun things to say at Home Depot:
“While I enjoy an undermount, I still prefer the flexibility of a self-rimming option.”
Nice kitchen — timeless and trendless (in a good way)

Looks great. My new house mantra is “double sinks are stupid”. I changed mine a few years ago and it’s been incredibly stress reducing.

You know, you’re right about double sinks. They’re useless. Give me one big sink, not two tiny ones.

Looks great. I’m in the middle of a kitchen remodel myself, and I really like those sinks. I was worried they look too industrial, but its a good fit in your kitchen.

Now that is a nice sink. Exactly the style I would go for.
Your blueberry bush needs some raspberry bushes for company. Or maybe some or those tiny wine grapes....

I may have said this before once or twice in my lifetime, but that’s a very nice sink.

This one is designed to work in both positions. Because the counter was cut for a drop in, switching would have been expensive (it meant new counters, which I want, but we’ve also heard that under counter is harder to keep clean), so we just stuck with drop in.
Thanks. I think it is mostly okay and it was a selling point of this home - nothing offensively outdated that bothered us, so we could live with it for the time being. There is, however, a fair bit of style from the first housing bubble in there, including the cabinet doors, the very rounded counter edges (next project in the kitchen is counters, but they’re not offensive enough to be high on the list, unlike the sink which was more functionality than appearance), the mismatch of the island with the side counters (whyyyy?!), and the dark distressed cabinet hardware (very dated design that I could do something about, but it’s endurable).

I can’t understand why they do double sinks aside from maybe to save water when you fill them up. But who fills them up? We don’t even have a way to fill this one and we never filled the old one.
Definitely with you on the stress reduction, too.
I lived with much smaller single basin sinks in both my condos and they were so much better than even the huge double my parents have. The best compromise double I’ve used had a very large basin to one side and a shallow small basin for the garbage disposer. Never understood it, but at least the big one was big enough to wash a pot in. This one is just so much more luxuriously large than even that one was.

Thanks. I had to order it in, but it ticked all the boxes - single basin, no pointless holes, thicker stainless, reasonably deep, and well insulated so it isn’t noisy.
Raspberries tend to run like crazy here (even though I love them, I know better than to plant them) and my in-laws are only a few miles of fun curvy road away with a huge stand of raspberries in their garden, plus over an acre of wild blackberries on land where we’ve been eradicating scotch broom... However, I would like to plant at least one Rubus leucodermis in my yard because they don’t spread by runners, but I only have one sunny spot available to plant in while keeping the general aesthetic of my yard without creating a new bed or removing grass (which I hate, but it’s pretty well established).
The spot where I’ve put my potted thyme plant gets a lot of sun and could probably host 1-2 of them.
This area is ripe for planting something, especially if I can reduce the thickness of these silly cypress hedges, but it would probably look very out of place with the overall professional landscaped style of my yard.

Thanks.
The potential for looking too industrial was a slight concern for us as well, but we threw caution to the wind and I think it worked out well. We have a lot of stainless already and it was replacing a stainless sink, so it wasn’t a massive departure.

The main purpose of a double sink is for people who hand wash their dishes ( 1 to wash and 1 to rinse), most people now a days have a electric dishwasher, so it’s not needed.

Are the rubber booties on the grate slip-on or bonded?

Slip on. It came with a bunch of spares. I’m not even sure we’ll use the grate long term.

The slip-on kind collect water. My concern is mold growth.

I see. I guess we’ll see how they do.
I mean, if something will mold or grow moss, it’ll do it where I live.

While I agree with you, even handwashing I prefer one sink. I’m a sponger, sticking my hands in sudsy water freaks me out. Yes, I disinfect the sponge after each use ;)

I fucking love that sink. Split sinks are the dumbest thing ever.

Thanks.
I totally agree. Someone above said it was for hand-washing dishes, but this house came with a dishwasher. The inability to soak/wash anything large, like a cookie sheet or skillet, had been driving me crazy since we moved in.

I agree, plus I have never once wanted to soak dishes when I didn’t have a dishwasher. That is just nasty gross water afterward that I need to reach in to pull the plug... No thank you

Seriously.
I was thinking the kind of soaking you do where you put a pan in a sink, fill with water/soap, then let it sit before some scrubbing with a long-handled brush and pouring it out...
